Everything around the acreage is a little more difficult in winter. Oh, the season has its charms, but when water freezes and bone chilling winds cut through the warmest coat, even the smallest outdoor chores become a mental and physical challenge.

Come Join the Fun at the University of Okoboji Winter Games

What do you do in the Midwest in late January? Well, some take advantage of time off and head south for warmer climates, and others spend their entire winter in the South. Some unfortunate souls feel stuck and simply spend all their winter indoors.

Yes, it is true that the winter weather in northwest Iowa can be truly challenging and unforgiving, but there are those people that relish what Mother Nature brings to northwest Iowa in late January, and at the Iowa Great Lakes, locals actually embrace the weather and set about celebrating northwest Iowa in the winter! The celebration? It is the University of Okoboji Winter Games, and as many as 35,000 people-both residents and visitor-will converge on the Iowa Great Lakes to spend time being a part of the 2009 University of Okoboji Winter Games set for January 23-25, 2009.
